What is DIR/Floortime?
DIR (Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship-Based)/Floortime model provides a comprehensive framework for understanding and supporting a child's development. Based on the teachings of Stanley I. Greenspan, M.D., it is ideally suited for children with developmental delays, motor delays, sensory integrative dysfunction, autism spectrum and related disorders. It focuses on helping children master the building blocks of relating, communicating and thinking, rather than on symptoms alone. Parents are taught how to do the"floortime" play that will be done in the home in four to six 20 minute sessions (in the car, at the grocery, at home) a day depending on the needs of the child.
